Over the next three years, five companies - including GETEC ENERGIE - and three research institutes will be working together on a blockchain-based solution to enable energy trading - even of very small quantities - in quasi-real time. In the future, industrial parks, shopping centers and private households, for example, should benefit from this. These could then use blockchain technology to balance out their energy surpluses or shortages locally - without placing additional demands on the already overloaded supra-regional power grid. The ETIBLOGG funding project is part of the "Smart Service World II" technology program, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

"First of all, we will work with our partners to develop a concept for the use of blockchain technology in the energy industry and, in a second step, translate this into a prototype together with the Fraunhofer Institute in Erlangen," explains Simone Gitschier, ETIBLOGG project manager. This will be followed by a field test in a public area network such as a shopping center or industrial park, Gitschier continues. "Blockchain technology promises to revolutionize energy trading - especially in the micro-volume sector. We are excited about the results of ETIBLOGG and look forward to making them usable for our customers," says Bernward Peters, CEO of GETEC ENERGIE.
