GETEC-ENERGIE subsidiary GEWI signs power purchase agreement (PPA) for up to 60 MW with renowned wind farm project developer to support the continued operation of various EEG20plus plants

Hanover, 13.10.2020 - In September 2020, GEWI GmbH (GEWI) signed a power purchase agreement for a capacity of up to 60 MW of green electricity per year for a portfolio of wind farms that will soon no longer be subsidized. The contract term is set at up to five years, depending on the wind farm.

The marketing of electricity from wind turbines with the help of power purchase agreements (PPAs) is becoming increasingly important, particularly for turbines that will no longer be eligible for the fixed feed-in tariff under the EEG from 2021 (EEG20plus). For plants that are no longer eligible for feed-in tariffs, marketing to industrial customers or via the electricity exchange is an opportunity to continue operating and thus generate income. GEWI will market the wind power generated by the EEG20plus plants on the electricity exchange as part of a flexible pricing model. The entire range of forward and spot markets will be used to market the nominal output of up to 60 MW over the term of the contracts. The term of the agreed PPA is up to five years. "PPAs are of great importance here for the continued operation of wind turbines without further entitlement to a feed-in tariff. Through our network within the GETEC group of companies, we have access to various industrial companies that want to make their contribution to a sustainable energy supply. At the same time, we also have access to the electricity exchange to market the electricity from the wind farms. PPAs offer ideal conditions for all parties involved to bring supply and demand directly together," explains Stefan Poehling, Managing Director of GEWI. GEWI GmbH is a subsidiary of GETEC ENERGIE GmbH and has been involved in the marketing of electricity from renewable energy sources since 2009. Today, GEWI is one of the most successful independent companies in the direct marketing of electricity from renewable energy sources, especially wind. GEWI has continuously expanded its portfolio since 2011 and now markets around 3,000 MW for its customers. With the power purchase agreement that has now been agreed, the number of PPAs concluded by GEWI increases to 130 MW in total.
