Able to act in the crisis: How industrial companies can reduce their energy costs and secure their supply at the same time

Munich/Hanover, 28.06.2022 - In future, commercial energy consumers will be able to protect themselves from the potential energy shortages and escalating energy prices caused by the war in Ukraine by making intelligent use of existing self-generation plants, integrating renewable energies to reduce costs and managing consumption in a targeted manner, thereby significantly reducing their energy costs at the same time. The know-how for this is provided by the recently launched cooperation between the two energy service providers GETEC ENERGIE GmbH (GETEC ENERGIE) and the ENERGYLINK Group.

In order to avert impending shortages of electricity and natural gas in a timely manner and prevent industrial companies from having to shut down their energy supply, the only realistic approach is to use existing resources more efficiently. Based on their many years of experience, GETEC ENERGIE and ENERGYLINK have developed a supply and control concept that enables the realization of considerable savings potential based on the current situation.

With the cooperation that has now been launched, both companies want to focus on the use of flexibility coupled with the cost-reducing integration of green electricity. At the same time, the (production) activities of customers are to be managed in such a way that their energy consumption can be adapted to the current supply situation for electricity and natural gas. In concrete terms, this means that, within the framework of a special supply contract, the energy generated from renewable sources at a specific point in time and the electricity production from in-house generation plants, such as CHP plants, are matched to the simultaneous energy requirements of electricity and natural gas in such a way that supply and demand are almost perfectly balanced. Price hedging and short-term energy price situations are combined in such a way that security and savings potential are not mutually exclusive. Possible marketing potential in the balancing energy markets is made possible at the same time. The energy management processes of GETEC ENERGIE and ENERGYLINK, which have been tried and tested over many years, ensure precise and transparent billing of services and effects.

“Coordinating a company’s activities in such a way that energy consumption can be adapted to the current availability and market prices for electricity and natural gas is highly complex,” explains Dr. Klaus Strassburger, founder and main shareholder of ENERGYLINK AG. “ENERGYLINK has been the specialist for the energy supply of controllable industrial operations for years,” Strassburger continues. “Detached from the still very inflexible framework conditions in Germany, together with GETEC ENERGIE we are now providing customized solutions that are extremely interesting from an economic point of view,” adds Strassburger.

“Unfortunately, the generation of green electricity from wind power and PV systems is not as consistent as is the case with conventional power plants,” explains Cord Wiesner, Managing Director of GETEC ENERGIE. “With our many years of experience with forecasting models, we can remove a lot of uncertainty here and thus contribute to the predictability and economic viability of green electricity production,” Wiesner continues.

Since 2001, the ENERGYLINK Group has been responsible for the procurement and marketing, i.e. the holistic cost optimization, of larger energy consumers and producers and uses all the potentials of the energy markets individually tailored to the individual application.
