Hanover PPA deal: GETEC ENERGIE to supply green electricity to Continental from 2023
Hanover, 04.01.2023 - The Hanover-based energy service provider GETEC ENERGIE GmbH (GETEC ENERGIE) has been supplying Continental with green electricity from wind power since January 1, 2023, including from wind turbines located in the Kronsberg district of the Lower Saxony state capital.
GETEC ENERGIE will supply Continental with around 23 GWh of wind power per year as part of the direct electricity supply contract, also known as a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement). The direct power purchase enables commercial energy consumers to transparently track which plants are generating the electricity. On the basis of this contract, Continental will be supplied with sustainably generated electricity from several wind farms in northern Germany from 2023. The electricity generated is not subject to any state subsidies, as the plants have already been in operation for some time. In addition to the wind farm at Kronsberg in Hanover, the electricity will come from the Nordenham wind farm near Bremerhaven and the Selsingen wind farm between Bremen and Hamburg.

Secondly, the purchase of electricity from these plants ensures their continued operation so that they do not have to be dismantled. This is an important contribution to the careful use of resources.”
Continental aims to achieve climate neutrality in all of its own production processes by 2040 at the latest. Since the end of 2020, Continental has therefore switched all the electricity it purchases for its production facilities worldwide to green electricity. The entire electricity procurement has thus become CO2-neutral in one fell swoop. This alone saves more than two million tons of CO2 per year.
With the supply contract now concluded between Continental and GETEC ENERGIE, the energy service provider is supporting the technology company in making its energy supply even broader and more local.
