Green milestone: GETEC ENERGIE procures more than 2 TWh of PPA electricity for industrial and commercial customers.

GETEC ENERGIE is one of the pioneers in supplying industrial and commercial customers with green electricity via direct power supply agreements (PPAs). GETEC ENERGIE has now sold a total of more than two terawatt hours of green electricity to its customers. Customers of PPA electricity include industrial giants such as Continental, real estate manager Union Investment Real Estate and food manufacturer Develey.

In 2022, the Hanover-based energy service provider was listed for the first time by the Federal Network Agency and the Federal Cartel Office as the fourth-best-selling electricity supplier for industrial and commercial customers in Germany behind E.ON, RWE and EWE. This strong position is also reflected in the PPA business. In addition, GETEC and its subsidiary GEWI have long-standing relationships with wind farm operators, which means that the PPA business has not suffered from the often criticized scarce availability of PPA volumes.

“Direct supply contracts with producers of mainly wind power, but increasingly also solar power, have become an attractive source of supply for commercial energy consumers,” explains Cord Wiesner, CEO of GETEC ENERGIE. “We are seeing strong interest in PPAs across all sectors. However, as the purchase of green electricity is an essential part of reducing indirect CO2 emissions (Scope 2), the number of inquiries from energy-intensive companies is particularly high,” Wiesner continues.
