Green traction current: HSL Logistik signs PPA for 50,500 MWh with GETEC ENERGIE.

Hamburg/Hanover, 31.01.2024 - The rail transport company HSL Logistik GmbH has been purchasing green electricity from several German photovoltaic and wind farms in Germany since 01.01.2024. The direct power supply agreement (PPA) was concluded via GETEC ENERGIE GmbH (GETEC ENERGIE).

Since January 1, 2024, more than half of HSL Logistik GmbH’s (HSL) electricity requirements have been generated by clearly identifiable photovoltaic and wind farms. The plants that generate green electricity for HSL as part of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) are located in Bavaria (PV), Lower Saxony (wind) and Rhineland-Palatinate (wind). In total, the plants will supply 47,700 MWh of wind power and 2,800 MWh of PV power to HSL in 2024.

PPAs have become an attractive source of green electricity for logistics companies such as HSL. PPAs can be used to track which wind power or PV systems generate the electricity that a company purchases. This makes sustainability efforts more transparent and tangible. In addition, PPAs offer long-term price stability, which increases planning security for both operators of generation plants and electricity consumers.

“HSL Logistik has been relying on sustainably generated electricity for a long time. With the green electricity supplied by GETEC ENERGIE, HSL Logistik is taking a further step towards a sustainable future,” comments Haiko Böttcher, Managing Director of HSL Logistik. “The conscious use of green energy makes a significant contribution to a more sustainable world. It is up to all of us to drive the energy revolution and enable positive change for future generations. We are delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with GETEC ENERGIE,” continued Böttcher.

“The supply of green traction current poses a number of challenges: on the one hand, energy demand can vary greatly on the consumption side. But there can also be huge fluctuations on the generation side, as wind and sun do not provide a constant supply of energy,” explains Cord Wiesner, CEO of GETEC ENERGIE. “Fortunately, our forecasting team is very experienced in matching energy demand and supply. This is one of the reasons why so many large commercial energy consumers rely on our expertise,” Wiesner continues.
