Efficiency gains and strong PPA demand: GEWI portfolio grows to a record 4,300 MW.

The GETEC Energy subsidiary GEWI was able to increase its portfolio from 3,200 MW to 4,300 MW in the course of 2023. The recipe for success is based on both internal and external factors. According to GEWI, it significantly restructured its processes last year and has since been able to focus more strongly on existing and potential customers thanks to efficiency gains in the processing of contracts. “By optimizing and automating numerous workflows and focusing more strongly on our core competence – flexibility and market agility – we have been able to acquire numerous new customers that we were unable to reach in the past,” says Patrick Notzon, Managing Director of GEWI.

In addition to internal efficiency gains, GEWI is also clearly benefiting from current market developments. Although traditional direct marketing via the market premium model continues to play an important role, the importance of alternative marketing models – such as direct power supply agreements (PPAs) in particular – is growing rapidly. At GEWI, PPAs already account for around 30% of the marketing portfolio – and the trend is rising sharply. “The demand for PPAs among plant operators remains very high. Through our main shareholder, GETEC ENERGIE, we have access to numerous industrial electricity consumers, which is a clear advantage when marketing via PPAs,” Patrick Notzon continues.
