More than 600,000 MWh of green electricity for 42,000 consumption points: Vodafone and GETEC ENERGIE continue their successful cooperation in the PPA area.
Düsseldorf/Hanover, 10.04.2024 - GETEC ENERGIE GmbH (GETEC ENERGIE) will supply Vodafone with 600,000 MWh of electricity from photovoltaic and wind power plants in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The latest, most extensive PPA deal between the two companies to date represents the continuation of the trusting cooperation that has existed since 2017.
Vodafone and GETEC ENERGIE are taking their successful collaboration in the area of more sustainable energy supply to a new level: over the next three years, the Hanover-based energy service provider will supply Vodafone with more than 600,000 MWh of PPA electricity. This electricity from clearly identifiable photovoltaic and wind power plants will supply 42,000 points of consumption throughout Germany – from the corporate headquarters in Düsseldorf to data centers and various amplification points. GETEC ENERGIE is one of the leading providers of PPA electricity in Germany and also specializes in supplying commercial energy consumers with a large number of consumption points, known as multi-sites. GETEC ENERGIE has been supplying Vodafone with energy since 2017.
PPAs have become an attractive procurement method for commercial energy consumers for more sustainably produced electricity, as it is possible to trace which photovoltaic or wind power plants generate it. In addition, PPA electricity often comes from plants that are no longer subsidized. The purchase of electricity from these plants supports their continued operation, which in turn reduces the consumption of resources.
“We already operate 100% of our Vodafone network with electricity from renewable sources. We obtain almost half of this from Power Purchase Agreements, and the trend is rising. These energy agreements are a win-win for companies and the environment, as they make it possible for us to plan more sustainable electricity purchases in the long term. And they also accelerate the urgent energy transition in Germany,” comments Michael Jungwirth, Director Public Policy & External Affairs at Vodafone.
“PPAs are a very good option for companies that really take sustainability seriously to cover their demand for green electricity. However, the contracts required to regulate the individual needs of the parties involved are complex,” explains Cord Wiesner, CEO of GETEC ENERGIE. “Companies with a large number of consumption points in particular benefit from the fact that, as an aggregator, we bundle the offerings of various plant operators. Our customers would otherwise have to conclude individual PPAs with different suppliers. This would greatly complicate the purchase of green electricity,” Wiesner continues.
