PPA electricity for Europe's leading non-automotive foundry group: DIHAG purchases green electricity from GETEC ENERGIE.

Hanover, 27.05.2024 - DIHAG Integrated Foundry Group has concluded a PPA for 60,000 MWh per year with GETEC ENERGIE GmbH (GETEC ENERGIE). The sustainably produced electricity for the specialist for innovative cast products comes from a number of wind farms in northern Germany.

The DIHAG Integrated Foundry Group has been purchasing green electricity from GETEC ENERGIE under a PPA since the beginning of this year. In 2024 and 2025, the energy service provider from Hanover will supply GIGA Energy GmbH, as the energy supplier of the DIHAG Group, with 60,000 MWh of wind power from Germany per year. GIGA Energy had commissioned the consulting firm REM CAPITAL AG, the specialist for PPA advisory, subsidies and strategic financing, to advise, structure and search for a suitable PPA partner and thus came to GETEC ENERGIE, which prevailed over competitors in the consulting firm’s tender.

For commercial energy consumers, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) have become an attractive method of procuring sustainably generated electricity. This type of procurement makes it possible to track exactly which photovoltaic or wind power plant is generating the procured energy. The electricity for DIHAG comes from various wind power plants in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein. GETEC ENERGIE also acts as an aggregator in the PPA agreement and bundles the supply from the individual plant operators for customers such as DIHAG. For electricity consumers, this service reduces the complexity of PPAs, which are often demanding in terms of their precise structure. In addition, GETEC ENERGIE takes on the structuring – i.e. the forecast, calculation of balancing energy risks and schedule management – of a PPA.

“With the PPA, we are securing our supply of renewable energies and are thus consistently moving towardsCO2-neutral production,” says DIHAG Managing Director Christian Lüke about the transaction.

“PPAs are the greenest, most credible and most reliable product that the German energy market currently has to offer,” says Cord Wiesner, CEO of GETEC ENERGIE, commenting on the relevance of PPAs. “Although the contract design is quite complex, energy service providers like us can offer valuable support for electricity producers and consumers.”
