Offshore wind energy in the portfolio for the first time: GEWI GmbH starts direct marketing for offshore wind farm with 200 MW.

Hanover, 10.03.2025 - GEWI GmbH (GEWI) is pleased to announce that the company is marketing wind energy from an offshore wind farm for the first time. GEWI is thus setting another important milestone in the direct marketing of renewable energies.

Offshore wind farms can play an important role in the energy transition. They are located on the high seas and use the favorable wind conditions to generate energy from wind power. As a result, offshore wind farms have the potential to meet the growing demand for energy from renewable sources.

As part of a multi-year contract, our majority-owned subsidiary GEWI is taking over direct marketing for the Trianel wind farm Borkum II. With a capacity of 200 MW, the wind farm produces significantly more electricity due to the optimal offshore conditions and achieves a higher number of operating hours than onshore turbines. The highly complex and costly marketing of an “offshore project like this differs considerably from the marketing of classic onshore contracts,” explains Patrick Notzon, Managing Director of GEWI. “Despite the more complex “onboarding process”, we have set the decisive course in recent years to be able to market such projects, taking into account the more complex redispatch processes, for example. Operators therefore benefit from our many years of expertise and the numerous process automations that we have continuously optimized and expanded in recent months and years.”

In 2024, GEWI was able to increase its marketed portfolio from 4300 MW to 5300 MW. In addition to solar and battery storage marketing, the direct marketing of energy from offshore wind farms is another growth driver for GEWI.
