Purchasing power from renewable sources is of great importance for many of our customers. GETEC ENERGIE can supply its industrial and commercial customers with standalone GOOs, independent of PPAs, when we procure energy for them. Of course, the additional procurement of GOOs is optional.

What are GOOs with additional features?

In Germany, Guarantees of Origin (GOO) are issued for power generated from renewable energy sources without statutory subsidies. GOOs come with different quality characteristics and potential additional benefits. The type of additional characteristics ranges from guaranteed investments in the expansion of renewable energies to investments in social or environmental projects. The quality of the additional features is also reflected in the price of a GOO: Simple GOOs mainly come from hydropower plants in northern Europe and are rather inexpensive. Special GOOs facilitating the expansion of renewable energy plants, originating from a specific region or supporting environmental protection programs may be more expensive. We are committed to transparency: How exactly does the procurement of Guarantees of Origin work?

When purchasing power from renewable sources, consumers need to be confident that the so called “green” electricity they pay for does in fact come from renewable energy sources. Guarantees of origin (GOOs) prove the origin of renewable energy in a transparent way and provide electricity consumers the necessary reliability. A GOO is an electronic document that certifies the generation of one MWh of electricity from renewable energies. GOOs can be traded either together with the electricity or independently of the electricity generated. As trading in GOOs is decoupled from the electricity market, there is a separate market for this. Operators of renewable energy farms can sell their GOOs and transfer them to the buyer - e.g. an electricity supply company like GETEC ENERGIE. In Germany, the transfer of GOOs takes place in the Guarantee of Origin Register (“Herkunftsnachweisregister” - HKNR). Please consult our page on “green” power for further explanations.
