Marketing of renewable power

Operators of wind power, photovoltaic and biomass plants want to market their electricity as profitably as possible. This can be done through direct marketing on the power markets, or through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), which offer opportunities for operators of new and existing plants.

We look forward to working with you.

Direct marketing via the market premium model (“Marktprämienmodell”)

Our joint venture GEWI is one of the largest direct marketers of electricity from renewable sources in the German-speaking region. Together with GEWI, we support operators of wind power, photovoltaic and biomass plants by buying the electricity generated in their plants from them. The plant operator receives a price from GEWI that is based on the current exchange price and  is entitled to the market premium (“Marktprämie”), including the management premium (“Managementprämie”), from the grid operator. The proceeds realized from GEWI and the market premium together always correspond to the fixed feed-in tariff for electricity from renewable energies.

We are committed to transparency: How exactly does the direct marketing of renewable power work?

Operators of wind power, photovoltaic and biomass plants have the opportunity to sell the electricity generated in their plants to GETEC ENERGIE’s shareholding GEWI. In doing so, GEWI handles the entire process and ensures that the plant operator receives a price from GEWI that is based on the current exchange price and that the operator is entitled to the market premium (“Marktprämie”), including the management premium (“Managementprämie”), from the grid operator.

Direct marketing of electricity from new wind, photovoltaic or biomass plants with PPAs

Operators of wind power, photovoltaic and biomass plants can market the electricity they generate directly via Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Under certain circumstances, this can be more attractive than direct marketing via the market premium model. Electricity directly marketed in this way can also be designated as “green” if the GOOs are also being provided, which is becoming increasingly interesting for industrial and commercial companies consuming this energy. Additionally, in times of decreasing feed-in tariffs, PPAs have also become more economically competitive.

Direct marketing of electricity from EEG-20+ plants with PPAs

For many operators of older renewable plants, the question arises as to how they should market their electricity when the public subsidies (according to the German „EEG“ law) for the plants expire after 20 years of funding. These installations are therefore also referred to as "post-EEG plants" or "EEG-20+ plants". Such plants can be commercialized via Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs). In the form of PPAs, producers of electricity from renewable sources can market their electricity directly. Our joint venture GEWI enters into PPAs with producers, allowing GETEC ENERGIE to then supply commercial customers with electricity linked to renewable sources. Provided the corresponding GOOs are also being sold, the electricity marketed this way may be described as “green” (for more information, please see here) - in contrast to EEG-subsidized electricity. This is increasingly relevant for many commercial energy consumers. In addition, direct marketing via PPAs is a good way for operators of existing plants to ensure the continued operation of their plants. PPAs and related supply agreements can be concluded for several years, which means additional planning security.
