HANNOVER: THE INSIDER TIP FOR LIVING AND WORKING

For most people, the attractiveness of their place of residence and work plays an important role in their job search, in addition to the content of their work, nice colleagues and general conditions. Hanover is - wrongly - often underestimated. We would like to bring Hanover a little closer to you with ten facts.

Discover Hanover.

1. HANOVER IS DIVERSE AND VARIED

Hanover offers something for every taste. For families with children, the adventure zoo, the zoological garden, various child-friendly events and the extensive, green surroundings provide more than enough variety. If you are looking for alternative pubs and cultural offerings, you will find them in the Linden district and the Nordstadt. The old town with its half-timbered houses is also a colorful mix. From the noble boutique to the down-to-earth pub, everything is represented. The Ballhofplatz, which is perhaps the most beautiful square in Hanover, is located in the middle of the old town and regularly becomes the venue for various cultural events in the summer season.

2. HANOVER IS AFFORDABLE

Even the difficult topic of finding a place to live in many large German cities is more relaxed in Hanover. With average rents well below 10 euros (see Mietspiegel 2019) per square meter, Hanover is more affordable than comparable cities.

3. HANOVER IS CONSIDERED THE GREENEST CITY IN GERMANY

At GETEC, we have long been aware that Hanover is considered the "greenest city in Germany". Almost half of the city area consists of green spaces. The Eilenriede city forest alone covers 642 hectares. So there's plenty of space to relax outside after work.

4. HANOVER IS VERY WELL CONNECTED

Hanover has excellent east-west and north-south connections via the A2 and A7 freeways as well as via the railroad lines that intersect in the city. It takes only one and a half hours by train to Hamburg and Berlin, and two hours by ICE Sprinter to Frankfurt/Main. Even Munich can be reached in just over four hours. The airport also provides reliable connections between the Hanoverians and the rest of the world. The local public transport system is well developed right into the region.

5. HANOVER IS RELAXED

In 2018 Hannover was named the third most relaxed city in the world. In addition to its numerous green spaces, Hanover scores points above all for the mental well-being of its inhabitants. For us at GETEC, this only confirms what we have long known: Hanover is a city where life is relaxed.

6. HANOVER AND THE REGION INVITE YOU TO VARIOUS ACTIVITIES

In addition to the city, the region of Hanover also has a high recreational value. If you prefer a more rural setting, Region Hannover with the Steinhuder Meer, the Deister mountain range, which is mountainous by Lower Saxony's standards, and various charming villages is a good place to be. Due to the - with the exception mentioned - very flat topography, it is very easy to cycle in the surrounding area of the Lower Saxon metropolis.

7. HANOVER IS A BICYCLE CITY

In Hanover the locomotion by bike is very popular. And not without reason: Thanks to well-developed and, above all, wide cycle paths, which are usually passable in both directions, cyclists simply jet past traffic jams. The city center can thus be reached quickly and inexpensively from all surrounding districts. And due to the flat underground of the city, no cyclist has to cycle uphill.

8. EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS HANOVERIAN

It is known that the purest High German is spoken in Hanover. Except for designations like "Lütje Lage" or "Herri", which each designate alcoholic beverages, every new Hanoverian who moves in can quickly get along. By the way: Most newscasters in Germany come from the area around Hanover.

9. HANOVERIANS ARE HAPPY

According to a study of the state capital Hanover, nine out of ten respondents are very satisfied with their city. Above all, the public transport system, the numerous green spaces and the good medical care score points among those surveyed. At the same time, the people of Hanover are described as "optimists of the North" due to their positive attitude to life. Who wouldn't want to have this optimism around them?

10. SOCCER NEVER GETS BORING IN HANOVER

Opinions differ on the subject of soccer. This much can be said: At least with the Reds it never gets boring. But not only the Hanoverian footballers are known throughout Germany. Hanover's handball and ice hockey clubs are also well known.
