We promote biodiversity.

Sufficient biodiversity is essential for a permanently functioning ecosystem. In Germany, just under a third of all animal and plant species are considered endangered. GETEC ENERGIE therefore supports the association blühfläche.de e.V., which works to create sustainable and vibrant habitats for insects, nature and people.

As a bloom sponsor, we sponsor one acre of blooming land, supporting our environment to maintain the natural habitat of our diverse wildlife.

We take responsibility.

Our blooming area

Our flowering area is located near Fölziehausen in the district of Hildesheim. Here, one hectare of arable land is sown with mixed seed on our behalf. Sowing begins at the beginning of April and continues until mid-June. This creates a continuous flowering sequence from May into October. The flowers are available as a food source for various insects. The constant pollination by various types of bees also promotes biodiversity. On the other hand, special seeds are used that have a particularly good CO₂ absorption and storage capacity.

Binding CO2 in the soil with plants

We have decided to support a very special blooming area. On our one-hectare blooming area, special seeds are sown that are characterized by a particularly good CO₂ absorption and storage capacity. These are strong-rooted, strongly humus-forming plants that also contribute to better water storage in the soil and reduced soil erosion. The area is also not harvested in the fall, which also protects the soil over the winter, improving soil life. With the CO₂ storage flowering area, we are supporting a healthy climate, the protection of our soil and a living nature on our doorstep in Lower Saxony.

What is biodiversity and why is it so important?

The United Nations defines biodiversity as the variety of all living organisms, habitats and ecosystems on land, in water as well as in the air. However, this biodiversity is under threat - even here in Germany. In this country, almost one third of all animal and plant species are considered endangered. The number of flying insects has declined by at least 75 percent in the last thirty years, and about two hundred species of flowering plants are on the "Red List" of endangered plants in Germany. You can read more about this on the website of the Leopoldina - National Academy of Sciences.

The project blühfläche e.V.

For the implementation of our blooming area, we rely on the expertise and contacts of the association blühfläche.de e.V. This was founded in 2020 to protect and promote biodiversity in Germany. With sustainably designed habitats for insects and other animals, the association is committed to a living environment. The flowering meadows provided by the association protect the environment, save bees and bring back a diverse biodiversity to places that were previously used for agricultural purposes. With the help of its flowering sponsors, the association transforms farmland between 250 m² and 20,000 m² into ecologically sustainable landscapes. For this purpose, high-quality seed mixtures are sown that meet greening criteria as well as requirements of beekeepers and conservationists. The flower meadows not only save and protect insects, but also the environment and ultimately people.

The blooming areas on television

The local magazine of Radio Bremen reported in July 2019 about the association blühfläche e.V.. In the contribution, farmer Claus Tietjen, one of the co-founders of the association, explains what blühfläche e.V. is all about. Here you can watch the recording directly.

EcoVadis Nachhaltigkeitsberichterstattung

Sustainability and corporate social responsibility have long played an important role for us. We are therefore particularly pleased to have achieved gold status in the EcoVadis sustainability rating. This puts GETEC ENERGIE among the top 5 percent of all companies rated in the energy industry.
